Highlights of the 2014 Sydney Festival

The program for the 2014 Sydney Festival has been announced, according to Timeout. Its many highlights include films, tours and magic for adults and children alike.

Celebrate Sydney in summer, from January 9-26, 2014, with the following events:

  • The giant, inflatable rubber duck will navigate Parramatta River
  • Spiegeltent and the Circus Ronaldo Tent (Hyde Park)
  • Lennox Theatre (Parramatta)
  • About An Hour program (Carriageworks)
  • Festival in the Domain
  • Summer Sounds
  • Symphony in the Domain
  • Fast Festival Feasts
  • Festival Village (Hyde Park) will be three times bigger and feature Sacrilege, a Stonehenge jumping castle
  • Dido and Aeneas choreography by Sasha Waltz will take place in a huge aquarium, including Berlin’s Academy for Ancient Music and Vocal Concert (Lyric Theatre)
  • Kaldor Public Art Projects will present Swap and Terrace by Roman Ondák (Parramatta)
  • Black Diggers will tell the story of Aboriginals who fought for Australia during WWI (Opera House)
  • Amanda Palmer will perform at Spiegeltent for 10 days
  • Kurt Vile will perform solo and in a band
  • Mike Mills of R.E.M. will take part in an all-star band that recreates Sister Lovers by Big Star
  • Tyondai Braxton will do a HIVE multimedia performance
  • Lee Ranaldo will perform Hurricane Transcriptions and Mike Patton will play Laborintus II
  • Contemporary music lovers can also see Matmos and Edwyn Collins
